Photographer Ryo Yamazaki and his wife were brushing their three gorgeous kitties several years ago and all the fur on the floor sparked an idea. What if they could take the fur and make hats for their cats?
And that's exactly what they did! They used a felting technique and made the first of what have come to be known as Nukege hats. Nukege is the Japanese word for shed fur or hair.
“It all started when Donald Trump was running for office as U.S. president and the hashtag ‘TrumpYourCat’ was trending in the U.S.,” Ryo says, referring to the viral craze of posting photos of cats sporting hairstyles like Donald Trump's. “I thought I might as well give it a go.”
According to the Yamazaki's, their cats don’t seem to mind at all, perhaps owing to the fact that the hats are super lightweight and smell just like they do. After all, they were just grooming the hair in those hats just moments ago!
Who wouldn't want a cute bunny kitty hopping around at Easter? Or perhaps an aviator kitty ready to fly you all across the world.
